Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve Description
Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve is located south of Skyline Boulevard near the intersection with Page Mill Road in La Honda in the County of San Mateo, California. The entrance to the preserve is about one mile south of this intersection. Monte Bello Open Space Preserve borders Skyline Ridge to the northeast and Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve sits on the northwest border.
Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve offers 2,143 acres of varied landscape including expansive meadows, ridge vistas, a pond for nature study and a lake frequented by migrating birds. There are over 10 miles of trails within the preserve for visitors to explore. While parts of the trail system within the preserve are for hikers only, most of the trails are multi-use suitable for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. There are two quarter-mile trails accessible to wheelchairs and baby strollers. One goes around Alpine Pond and the other follows the shores of Horseshoe Lake.
The David C. Daniels Nature Center is open to the public on weekends from April through mid-November as an educational learning center. Hours are 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM from April through mid-October, and 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM from mid-October through mid-November. The Nature Center offers exhibits and activities. Please check with the district for information on current activities.
The preserve offers ample parking, picnic tables, and restroom facilities. Pets are not allowed in the preserve.
